The current research focus is on the reaction-driven biomimetic sensing capabilities and supercapacitive performance of flexible polypyrrole/hydrogel hybrid systems fabricated through a facile and simple method. The multifunctionality of conducting polymers are explored as they can drive the simultaneous variation of different material properties and functions (conductivity, stored charge, stored conformational energy, stored counterions, porosity, volume, color, wettability, etc.) through the same electrochemical reaction. We offer the emergence of a new technological paradigm including several in one device (sensing supercapacitors, sensing actuators, etc.) without physical separation capable of sensing their surrounding conditions while working with only two connecting wires.
